Parties, people and overindulgence: it’s that time over the year where those who don’t go big, are probably watching “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” at home.

But after all the Turducken is gone and the Christmas pudding has been wolfed down, we are left with an insane need to make the world right again, by making for our sins in the past year. From diet promises, exercise determination and bad-habit breaking, there is no New Year’s Resolution that hasn’t been made.

From the Babylonians making promises to their gods at the start of each year (mainly in debt payments, and giving back that clay vase you borrowed at your neighbour’s last dinner party), the Romans paying tributes to Janus (the god January was named after) with promises of good-doing, to the the Medieval era where knights took the “peacock vow” to show their commitment towards chivalry, New Year’s Resolutions have been around for a lot longer than the New Year’s countdown has.

And yet, for all its age and wisdom, there is only one thing that is traditional about these promises that are made on the 31st of December each year: Everybody makes them, but nobody keeps them.

Liven up Your Lifestyle – Professional growth is okay, but your personal life requires attention too. Strike a balance. This should include having fun with your family too.
